Using Newsbin’s Layout and Tools

Use this reference to understand the core interface and feature set in Newsbin version 6.60 when used with Easynews.

Interface Overview

• Title Bar: Lists current version, build, and active tab.

• Menu Bar: Controls configuration and group handling.

• Toolbar Groups: Accessed via View menu. Includes navigation and filter options.

• Tab Structure: Each subscribed group or search appears in its own tab.

• Status Bar: Monitors article retrieval, current connections to Easynews.

Working Panes

• The Group Pane holds your subscribed Easynews newsgroups.

• Download activity is visible in the Download List.

Data Storage

• Newsbin uses a dual-file system for headers: .dat for data, .idx for indexing.

• Headers reflect group-based retention limits related to Easynews article retention.

Threading System

• Groups are organized using deduplicated subject lines.

• Message threading is visualized in the group tab’s display pane.

Utilities

• Logging available from the toolbar.
